K3 presents 'Massstab eins zu eins' at the Anker, Freiraum für zeitgenössische Kunst
opening 14th June 2003, 7.30pm exhibition from 15th - 27th June 2003

Masstab eins zu eins (‘scale one-to-one’) is a show designed by K3 for the temporary Zürich art space the ‘Anker’, organised by artist/curator Martin Furler. For many years, the Anker was a notorious Hells Angels’ hangout, which was recently closed down. The site will be used as a temporary exhibition space until autumn 2003 when renovation on the building will begin. The Anker is a unique space. Its rundown, dirty nicotine-stained interior seemed the perfect setting for this show.
K3 has brought together a group of artists whose work often uses the idea of scale ‘one-to-one’: the process of transferring an original object or theme into an art context, to create or reveal another aspect of the ‘actual’. The ‘bootleg’ counterpart pays homage to the ‘genuine article’ but through the making process it is granted a new identity, removed from its original meaning and function. These works are derived from everyday familiar things and places and the relationship to them is initially comfortable. Yet, on closer inspection they are not what they seem and the risk of being deceived is ever present.
